“Fuuuuckkk,” Griffin says, looking me up and down. “Let’s skip the party–”

“Told you he’d say that,” Ash says through a laugh.

I laugh too. He did say that. About two minutes ago, when he collected the three of us from Devin’s room, telling us people were going to be showing up any minute. Luckily, we were all dressed and ready. Devin in her Daphne Black costume, looking like she stepped straight out of the Scooby Doo movie, tall tight boots and all. Theo with his face painted into a perfect skull mask, wearing an all black tuxedo. And me, with my flirty, fun college-girl getup.

Ash is wearing a tight as sin t-shirt that says I’m an Alpha, that’s scary enough. And Carson is wearing one that looks to be made in the same font, reading: The skeleton in the suit is mine. Get too close to him and your costume will be splattered in blood. Free of charge. As promised, Griffin went total frat boy, wearing an oversized Maple Leafs hockey jersey, a goofy grin and his hair slicked back in a nonchalant kind of way.

“You ordered arm candy?” I ask, twirling my hair and skipping up to him, my bubblegum pink mini skirt swishing over the tops of my thighs. Coming to his side, I gawk at him in mock fascination, squeezing his biceps with wide eyes. “Oh my gracious, you’re so strong! You could probably lift me right off my feet, huh?”

He groans. “I’m going to come in my pants by the end of the night.”

I giggle. “Let’s see if we can make that happen.”

I take a minute to praise Theo and Devin on their decorating skills, loving the Haunted Mansion vibes they’ve created in just a few hours of work. Low white lights and fake candles can be found all over, fake cobwebs, and assorted Halloween decorations that don’t feel forced or tacky. It’s cool, seeing how happy the final result makes them, giving a big case of the warm and fuzzies.

The night passes in a blur as the house fills with guests from campus. All sorts of magical creatures, some in costume, some in street clothes. Griffin has made it his mission to show me off to everyone he comes across, making sure to note that I’m his girl. In the moments we’re alone, he explains that he knows he might be a bit animated and annoying with his need for attention at times, but he can’t help it. He never experienced being appreciated until the pack and now he’s addicted to validation. I can’t fault him for it. I adore it.

I don’t really care about meeting more students from MU, but I do love seeing him light up when they seem excited to see him. Hours pass so smoothly that it’s hardly a burden.

“Hey babe.” I tug on his arm, pulling his attention from the drink he’s pouring. “Who’s the mysterious dude in the leather jacket radiating ‘leave me the fuck alone’ energy?”

I noticed him when the party first started, and he’s only spoken to two people since showing up.
